METROSEXUAL is a chimera of the first order! It is one of a series of six kids from Tet JEDI TEQUILA SUNRISE, a conversion made in Canada that Mick crossed with an older Klehm. While the rest of its sibs are taller, bigger and more fertile and easy to hybridize with, they could not ignore the fact that this pony sized cascading flower has the greenest throat of all. One sib–TIME NEVER ERASES–a red with the same haunting green throat, is already registered as well as a second–its far taller, larger identical twin GRASSHOPPER. Garden visitors love the perfectly recurved flowers on this compact sized edger’s delight.   (Tet JEDI TEQUILA SUNRISE X PURPLE PAUPER). Note: The registered height lists this plant at 18″. That is wrong. Attemps to correct were never successful. It ranges more from 28″ to 32″. Also note that the scape height will be half that if it is planted in lots of shade. It needs full sun!
MEXICAN HOLIDAY $5.00 (Petit, 1999) Tet, 5″, 20″, Mid Season, Semi-Evergreen. Red Self above Green Throat. (((MIDNIGHT MAGIC X WRAPPED IN GOLD) X IDA’S MAGIC) X ROMEO IS BLEEDING)

Grows great in my southeast Tennessee garden. Northern Hardy Dormant. The Mons battle signified the first engagement between British and German forces on the Western Front, and began on August 23, 1914. The Battle of Mons comprises one of the so-called Battles of the Frontier that took place during August 1914 at Mulhouse, Lorraine, the Ardennes, Charleroi – and Mons. Mons has been a great producer of electric purples and also throws polymerous children…even though Mons does not poly itself.

(THUMB PRINT X CHICKEN ON THE RUN). Nate was Dan and Jackie Bachman’s dog for many years.   Dan says he was one fine dog and became a real member of their family. Some time after Nate’s passing, the Bachmans welcomed a new pup into their family…LeRoy Jethro Gibbs (Gibbs for short) named for the character on NCIS. Gibbs’ first year was a challenge, but he’s becoming another fine dog and maybe soon he’ll have a flower named after him too!

NOTHING RHYMES WITH ORANGE Display (Mick Morry, 2007 Registration; 2011 Introduction) Tet, 5.5”, 28”, Dormant, Mid Season. 16 Buds. 4-Way Branching. Electric Luminescent Orange with Heavy Creping above Solid Green Throat.   (MAUNA LOA X DARLA ANITA) Glows across the garden!   Bred in Canada. Stellar performer in SE Tennessee. Northern Hardy Dormant. This is one of the hottest oranges Mick has ever bred. It looks like stained glass when the sun hits it, but it is only in the shade when you see it has many nuances…such as creping and minor sculpting with some of its flowers. There are many faces to this delightful flower, as it shows many hues of orange. The only thing in common with the various colors it blooms as are in how hot and vivid the colors are. NOTHING RHYMES WITH ORANGE is a very strong breeder of polymerous daylilies and often polys itself.

Creamy Mauve Blend with Huge Straw Watermark and Piecrust Yellow Edge above Green to Yellow Throat. (BELLE COOK X GRANDMA’S SMILE) Bred in Canada. Vigorous grower in SE Tennessee. A personal favorite!   Lanny says this is one of her most important introductions. She is honored that it has been selected as one of Avalonia’s Cover Introductions. It won a CHS-Canadian Hemerocallis Society–Meritorious Seedling award a few years ago for Best Full Form. It has one of the best Pie Crust edges around and never, ever hangs up. It passes this very desirable trait on to its children. Highly recommended to hybridizers looking for superb substance and shocking edges.   Easily fertile both ways.
OLALLIE AUTUMN GOLD $5.00 Limited (George Darrow, 1979) Dip, 4.5”, 30”, Dormant, Very Late Season. Fragrant. Gold Self with Green Throat. I’ve often thought of discarding this plant…not because of anything it has done.   It is a fine plant. But it is so late, we are always in the processing of stripping beds and lining-out for the next season, so we don’t get to see it bloom much! For someone who could let it clump up, it would be remarkable in clump form.   Clear, clean color and long blooming.

Suffused Red Base Blends into Orange and Yellow Tones, Large Green over Yellow Throat Edge has Several Random Large Teeth.   (VELVET WIDOW X AREA FIFTY ONE).     I’m going to give myself credit for saving this one from the compost pile. Early on, when it came to the Test Garden here in southeast Tennessee, Mick didn’t feel it fit into his breeding program and had vowed he would never grow-on a plant that wasn’t both pod and pollen fertile. While this one was wildly pollen fertile, he couldn’t set a pod…and told me to destroy it. I couldn’t do it. Later on, it became a topic of conversation and I felt so proud I had spared its life.   Love, love, love this plant.
